WELCOME
My name is Susan Wards and this website is about the family, and some of the descendants of my Great Grandparents Herbert Harry ANDREWS and Susannah Emma JONES (known as Susan and who I was named after).
The ANDREWS family were from Worcestershire, England. Herbert Harry's grandfather, Henry ANDREWS emigrated from Liverpool, England to New York, USA in about 1852. With him was his second wife Jane and their two sons, William and Joseph. Also with them was Henry's son Charles from his first marriage and Jane's two children from her previous marriage. Henry's other children, Lucy and Henry jnr. don't appear to have gone to the USA but both were living in Melbourne, Australia by the mid 1850's. The family lived in the USA for 8-10 years where Henry worked as a coachbuilder. In 1860 Henry left New York aboard the ship "Compeer' arriving in Melbourne, Australia on 21 May 1860. He was travelling alone and his wife Jane, step-children and children followed a couple of years later.
The JONES family arrived in Australia in 1811. Mary JONES was a convict who was sentenced at the Old Bailey in London to 7 years transportation for stealing 12 pairs of stockings. She arrived in Sydney aboard the convict ship 'Friends' bringing with her, her two young sons. Her husband John JONES, a soldier serving abroad at the time of her trial, was left behind. In 1832 her youngest son Charles JONES, who was 15 months old when they left England, married convict Mary Ann BOSWELL who was sentenced in 1831 to 7 years transportation for receiving a stolen watch.
My aim is to gather and share as much information about our ancestors as I can. If you have any information, documents or photos that you would like to contribute to this site I would be most grateful and look forward to hearing from you. If you are a 'cousin' who has enjoyed looking at my site, please contact me, as I would love to hear from you.

* The above header photograph, believed to have been taken in the 1860's, depicts 18th century houses in Waterloo, Sydney thought to have been inhabited by the JONES/NEWBERY family. It was found in an album containing many images (most unmarked) from the Jones/Newbery family. The photo album was in the possession of George Thomas Jones and his wife Harriet Jane Wood and is now owned by their great-granddaughter Helen Favelle.
