In the census taken on 6 June 1841, Henry aged 8 was living with his parents in Upper Clare St, Liverpool, Lancashire, England however no 1841 Census entry for Laura and her family can be found.
In the census taken on 30 March 1851, Henry, aged 18, was living with his father and step-mother Jane, at 51 Woolfe St, Toxteth Park, Liverpool, Lancashire. He was working as a Stone Mason. Laura, aged 13, was living with her mother, brother and sisters, as lodgers at 57 James St, St Marylebone, Middlesex, England. Her father was not with them.
Six months later on 3 September 1851, Laura along with her parents and siblings departed London aboard the barque "Abberton" as steerage passengers. They arrived in Melbourne, Australia on 23 December, 1851. The ship's arrival was reported in The Argus (Melb).

In January 1863 he became an insolvent due to bad debts, losses in trade, depreciation of property and pressure of creditors, with debts of £2528 and assets of £1037. Just prior to Henry becoming insolvent he assigned the major part of his property to his father, Henry Andrews snr., but the property was taken possession of and Henry Andrews snr. brought an action in the Supreme Court against the assignees to recover damages for the illegal seizure of his property. The application was refused. The insolvency proceedings were reported in the following newspapers:
