Charles Joseph JONES (1835-1905), son of Charles JONES and Mary Ann BOSWELL, was born on 27 June 1835 in Parramatta, NSW and was baptised on 13 September 1835 at St. John's Anglican Church, Parramatta. He was a Confectioner.
Emma Jane NEWBERY (1841-1900), daughter of Charles NEWBERY and Jane WHEELER, was born on 3 December 1841 at 9 Dudley Street in Paddington, London, Middlesex, England. |

On the 30 March 1851, Emma aged 9 was living with her parents in Washwood, Hamlets of Sattley, Aston Warwickshire. She was a Scholar.
On the 23 May 1857, Emma and her family emigrated from Liverpool, England to Australia, aboard the ship "Monica". They arrived in Sydney, on 18 Aug 1857. She was described in the Ships Indent as being aged 14, a native of Paddington, London and could read and write.
Charles and Emma were married on 10 December 1860 in St Paul's, Cleveland St, Redfern, NSW. Charles was a confectioner. The witnesses were Charles Newbery and Ellen Newbery.

Emma died aged 58 of vascular disease of the heart with a duration of nine years on 16 January 1900 in Waterloo. She was buried two days later at Rookwood Cemetery in the Independent Section.
Charles died aged 70 of senile decay, congestion of the lungs and heart failure with a duration of one week on 13 October 1905 in Waterloo, NSW. At the time of his death he was a labourer. The informant was his son Charles Jones who did not know the names of his grandparents (Charles Jones & Mary Ann Boswell).
Charles was buried on 14 October 1905 in the same grave as his wife at Rookwood Cemetery. On the day of his funeral five Funeral Notices appeared on page 24 in The Sydney Morning Herald. They were inserted by Mr & Mrs Chas Jones, Mr & Mrs George T. Jones, Bert Jones, Mr Dennis P. McGarry and Mr & Mrs James Newbery inviting their friends to the funeral to leave his son, Charles Jones residence 118½ Botany-street, Waterloo, at 1.30 for Rookwood Cemetery.

Charles Joseph JONES and Emma Jane NEWBERY had the following children:
1. William Edward Jones (1861-1926)
William was born in 1861 in Chippendale, NSW. He married (1) Florence Nightingale Trevenar (1861-1943) in 1882 in Redfern, NSW and (2) Annie Emily Marson in 1911 in Auckland, New Zealand. He died, aged 65 in 1926 in Auckland, New Zealand.

4. Louisa Jones (1868-1870)
Louisa was born in 1868 in Redfern, NSW and died aged 2 in 1870.

8. George Thomas Jones (1878-1960)
George Thomas was born on 18 September 1878 in Waterloo, NSW. He married Harriet Jane Wood in 1896. They had seven children, Ella 1896-1896; George Charles 1899-1900; Vera May 1900-1976; Herbert William 1902-1985; Rita Elsie 1905-1996; Charles Edward 1910-1962; Edna Violet 1912-2006. George Thomas died aged 82 on 17 November 1960 at Prince Henry Hospital, Waverley, NSW.

Herbert fought in WWI enlisting in the A.I.F. on 16 January 1917. He was a Private in the 1st Machine Gun Battalion and served overseas in France. He was discharged on 19 May 1919. He died aged 91 on 30 September 1975 in Stanmore, NSW.
